Facilities Constructed to Aid in Recovery of Tourism Sector
The Indonesian Government has completed the construction of 263 new Tourism Accommodation Facilities. This was done by the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry.
The 263 Tourism Accommodation Facilities are located in the Manado-Likupang area which is a high priority destination located in North Sulawesi. The construction of these facilities is aimed at helping the tourism sector recover. The Government firmly believes the tourism sector will be on the rebound soon.
The Sarhunta Program is a program that is targeting the quality improvement of uninhabitable houses. The program is carried out as a series of activities for self-help housing assistance (BSPS). 2,750 uninhabitable houses will be used as homestays under this program and turn into liveable structures.
Under the program, there will be two main activities. The first is the improvement of business function houses. The second is the improvement of non-business function houses. These houses are in Marinsow, Kinunang, Pulisan, and Bunaken Island.
Besides the 263 Tourism Accommodation Facilities, another 225 houses have been renovated by the Government for non-business functions. These are along the road to Likupang, which is a strategic tourism zone known as KSPN.
Rp36.60 billion was budgeted for the rehabilitation and renovation. The homes will still maintain all the traditional nuances that represent the local customs and be attractive enough to attract tourists. The rental per night is Rp200 thousand.
The Government believes this Sarhunta program will support the tourism sector’s recovery. The locals will also benefit by getting an income from the influx of tourists. Manado-Likupang is one of the Government’s five top priority locations under the National Tourism Strategic Areas (KSPN).
