More Destinations Enter the Quarantine-Free Indonesian Travel List
Eligible travellers can enter Bintan and Batam without quarantine for more Indonesian travel.
The islands of Bintan and Batam are opening their borders for foreign travellers to enjoy more Indonesian travel. Eligible visitors to these islands will not need to observe quarantine protocols. This new development adds two more destinations to which foreign visitors can travel, aside from Bali.
The Riau Islands tourism authority will coordinate, streamline, and synchronise this addition to the existing VTL protocols. Singapore currently has Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) agreements with Indonesia for quarantine-free travel to Bali.
Nongsa Batam and Bintan Lagoi will facilitate entry via Bintan Port, Batam Port, and Tanjung Pinang Port. Travellers can also enter via Hang Nadim Airport and Raja Haji Fisabilillah Airport.
Strict Protocols Despite Quarantine-Free Travel
Bintan and Batam are open to all foreign travellers with valid visas and health insurance with SDG20,000 COVID-19 coverage. In addition, visitors need to show proof of payment for a hotel or tourism package in these areas. All visitors will also need to download and use PeduliLindungi, Indonesia’s COVID-19 contact tracing app.
Eligible travellers must also provide a negative Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR), aside from being fully vaccinated. The RT-PCR test should be taken 48 hours before departure, and another test will be done upon arrival. As a further incentive, a negative swab test on the third day will allow visitors to visit other parts of Indonesia.
The usual COVID-19 health protocols will still remain in place. These include wearing a mask, social distancing, and good hygiene practices at all times. If this new bubble is successful, Indonesian travel will see more quarantine-free destinations from April 2022.
More Gateways for Travellers and Entrepreneurs
The Indonesian Government is enthusiastic about welcoming new travellers and entrepreneurs into the country. With the addition of Bintan and Batam, Indonesian travel is slowly but surely transitioning towards more open borders. However, the authorities remain cautious and are shoring up on precautions and SOPs to ensure continuous safe travel.
As this development continues into 2022, entrepreneurs will find this the ideal time to start their ventures. Indonesia is a member of the G-20 and has the largest economy in Southeast Asia. As the fourth most populous country in the world, there is also no scarcity of purchasing power. Indonesia truly has much to offer in terms of business, especially with the foreign investment favourable Omnibus laws.
