Indonesia Boosts Tourism Ties with Malaysia and Singapore
Indonesia is strengthening tourism ties with Malaysia and Singapore through a renewed marketing push aimed at boosting regional travel and industry collaboration.
The Ministry of Tourism recently hosted the Wonderful Indonesia Business Matching Johor Bahru 2025 event, bringing together tourism players from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore. The two-day programme connected 24 Indonesian tourism businesses with 32 Malaysian buyers and 23 from Singapore, creating new opportunities for partnerships and joint travel offerings.
Business Matching in Johor Bahru Boosts Cross-Border Collaboration
Johor Bahru was picked due to its strategic location and strong connectivity. This makes it an ideal gateway between the three countries. The event focused on promoting Indonesian destinations, encouraging business-to-business cooperation, and keeping Indonesia competitive within Southeast Asia’s tourism market.
Malaysia and Singapore Remain Key Drivers of Visitor Growth
Tourism officials highlighted that Malaysia and Singapore remain two of Indonesia’s most important visitor sources, with more than 3.6 million travelers combined visiting in 2024. Strengthening cooperation with these markets is expected to drive further growth and support long-term tourism development.
The initiative also aligns with the “Jiran Istimewa” programme, which aims to deepen social, cultural, and economic links between neighbouring countries. By building closer industry relationships and encouraging joint tourism products, Indonesia hopes to attract more regional travellers and expand its presence across Southeast Asia.
