Indonesia Strengthens 3TP Connectivity via Pioneer Air Support
Indonesia is stepping up efforts to improve 3TP connectivity by expanding pioneer air support across remote and border regions of the country. These subsidised flights focus on underdeveloped, frontier and outermost areas, helping communities stay connected to the rest of the nation.
Connecting Remote Communities
Pioneer air services reflect the government’s commitment to serving people in hard-to-reach regions. Officials highlighted that these flights are essential for daily travel, access to services and regional development in 3TP areas.
The first subsidised pioneer flight for the 2026 Gorontalo regional zone was launched in Manado, marking the start of this year’s programme. The service is operated by Susi Air using a 12-seat Cessna aircraft.
These pioneer routes link North Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, and Gorontalo, operating on a fixed weekly schedule from Monday to Saturday. Multiple routes connect islands and provinces that previously had limited or slow transport options.
Supporting Growth and Safety
The flights significantly cut travel time, provide reliable transport alternatives, and support public services and local economies. Due to strong demand, one key route between Manado and Melonguane now operates three times a week instead of two.
To support operations, the government has also introduced fuel transport subsidies for 2026. Aviation fuel has been pre-positioned at selected airports to reduce costs for airlines and ensure smooth flight schedules.
The aviation authority will continue monitoring pioneer air support to maintain safety, service quality, and compliance, ensuring the programme delivers real benefits to communities in remote regions.
