New Two-Way Trade Agreement Between Indonesia and New Zealand Set to Boost Bilateral Trade

New Zealand and Indonesia will trade two ways thanks to a new export agreement signed in Auckland. The agreement is poised to enhance the two countries’ trading relationship.

 

Opening New Avenues

With the new two-way trade agreement in place, Indonesia and New Zealand will be exposed to new avenues that will increase and enhance the existing $3 billion trade and collaboration on three key areas. These areas are food safety, plant health and animal health.

The agreement for electronic export certification has also been finalised by both parties. This agreement only highlights the commitment the two countries have to streamline trade and digitise their government processes. Both countries will be working together to replace the current paper-based export certificates with electronic versions, simplifying border procedures in the process.

With business operations more efficient, it will only expedie market entry for products. This incidentally works out well for both Indonesia and New Zealand, since  both countries also plan to further boost the trade of onions and pineapples respectively. With the new two-way trade and export plan in place, New Zealand can keep exporting more than $40 million worth of high-quality onions to Indonesia without fumigation, thereby preserving the quality of the produce. Growers can expect to save both time and money.

The agreement will also allow Indonesia to export its pineapples to New Zealand for the first time. This will take effect immediately while the onion export is set to happen later this year.
