Indonesia and the US Sign US$34 Billion Strategic Commercial Agreements
Indonesia and the United States have recently formalised commercial agreements worth US$34 billion, aiming to deepen economic ties between the two countries. The agreements cover several strategic sectors, including energy and agriculture, and were finalised during a high-level business meeting held in Washington, D.C., on 7 July 2025.
Strengthening Bilateral Economic Relations
The signing event was organised by Indonesia’s Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs in cooperation with the Indonesian Embassy in the US capital. It brought together key business leaders from both nations, including representatives from PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional, Chevron, and several Indonesian trade associations.
Coordinating Minister Airlangga Hartarto underlined Indonesia’s commitment to maintaining and enhancing its partnership with the US. He emphasised the importance of the agreements in promoting trade cooperation, including potential progress in trade tariff discussions.
Economic Impact and Sectoral Focus
The agreements are expected to create thousands of high-quality jobs and provide support to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in both countries. Additionally, these initiatives aim to facilitate a greater exchange of knowledge and technological advancements, thereby strengthening the economic foundation shared by Indonesia and the United States.
The energy and agriculture sectors were prominently featured, with commitments from Indonesian businesses to procure advanced American products in these areas. This focus reflects the countries’ intention to build a mutually beneficial economic partnership based on respect and shared development goals.
